I have a client that has expressed interest in some sort of application or tool that would provide notifications and track each time a release gets Tweeeted, Retweeted, posted on Facebook or distributed/linked to other sites. Does anyone know of something that could manage this?
Most of the media monitoring services offer this type of tool for purchase -- its typically called social media monitoring. At my organization we're using a tool through CisionPoint. It's a Radian 6 product, which is well known as a social media monitoring tool.
I know Google Alerts have worked for many (and is a free alternative), but I'd also be interested in learning what tools others out there are using and their experiences.
Social media monitoring is offered by Radian6, the wire services and others. I've personally had mixed results. I'm not sure the technology is 100% there yet and some human search is still required. You can also search yourself on Google blog search, google reader, tweetdeck, hootsuite, etc.
Another resource that you may want to check out is Buzzzy (http://buzzzy.com/). They are fairly new on the scene. Vocus and Cision both offer solutions for this, but they are cost-prohibitive for most small businesses.
Here are a few others to check out: SocialMention, Trackle, ViralHeat, VisibleTechnologies, TweetBeep, Microblogbuzz, TweetScan and SocialOomph. Some of these are free -- others charge a monthly fee.
