Would your boss give you a kidney?

This employee got something better than a raise or extra vacation days. His boss gave gave him a kidney!

Would your boss ever do something like that for you? (If he or she did, you couldn't really quit your job, ever, now could you?)

If organ donation is, shall we say, not applicable, what's the nicest thing your chief has done for you lately?

I can't say that my boss has done anything close to organ donation lately, but her consistent kindness, generosity and care are the nicest things she's done for me (and the rest of my co-workers). AND, she's offered to do my make up for me at my wedding--she's a make up genius.

My husband met me at the door last night when I got home to tell me how proud he was of me. In the mail that day was a hand-written letter from my boss - addressed to him and our kids. She was writing to tell them what good work I do. It included a letter from the 90-year-old owner of our company complimenting my recent newsletter. My husband and kids were very impressed. While it’s not a kidney, it sure felt good to be appreciated in that way. Not only was it a great gesture by my boss, it made a difference to my family too!

About 25 years ago, I was a newly divorced single mom of a two-year-old and struggling financially. My only means of transportation had broken down and it was going to cost close to $1000 for repairs. I had no idea how I was going to take care of it. My boss paid for it out of his own pocket and told me it was a gift -- no strings -- and not to worry about paying him back. He will never know how much that meant to me.

As for the manager donating a kidney to an employee ... that very same thing happened in my former company, as well. I was the writer who was on point to write "wow" stories for the company Intranet and was advised not to make too much "hoopla" out of it because it didn't want to give the rest of the employees the impression that this sort of thing was expected of our managers. It definitely was a "wow" moment and a wonderful, selfless thing to do!
